Should you go to a shelter or breeder?

Well, it depends! Visiting a shelter can be an amazing way to help animals in need, and to keep them from being euthanized due to lack of room in the shelter. The dogs come from all over, with many different backgrounds and ages. It can be a good option for if you’re not looking for a particular breed, age, or personality of pup as shelters have them all. It can also be a cheaper way to get a companion. However, with shelter dogs, you can’t be certain of who you’re going to get or their medical backgrounds. With professional breeders, while a lot more expensive, can guarantee a specific breed and/or typical personality (calmer or more playful). It can also be good to get a dog you know is healthy for less expensive vet bills, and puppies can be easier to train than older dogs. Oftentimes, people will want a pure-breed dog, which can be better found with professional breeders than in shelters.
